From the beginning, Lydia and Chris had a clear vision for their engagement photos: something that felt like an afternoon at a European estate, with the romance and understated elegance of a French château. Kingwood Center Gardens offered the perfect setting to bring that vision to life.
With its historic estate, European-inspired architecture, manicured gardens, and quiet pathways throughout the property, Kingwood gave us the feeling we were looking for without needing to overcomplicate the session.
A French Château-Inspired Vision
We approached Lydia and Chris’ engagement session with the intention of creating photographs that felt timeless and elevated, while still allowing their personalities and relationship to come through. The architecture and gardens at Kingwood became a natural part of the photographs. We moved throughout the estate, using its stone details, greenery, garden paths, and more formal spaces to create a collection that felt as though it could have been photographed somewhere in the French countryside.
Creating Images That Feel Editorial and Natural
As a wedding photographer, I never want a session to feel like a series of poses. There is certainly direction involved, especially when we’re creating a more editorial photograph, but some of my favorite images happen in the moments surrounding those frames.
For Lydia and Chris, we mixed more intentionally composed portraits with movement and candid moments as we explored Kingwood. That balance allowed the photographs to feel polished and considered without losing the ease and connection between the two of them.
Film felt like a natural fit for Lydia and Chris’ engagement session at Kingwood. The softness, rich color, and subtle texture of film complemented the historic estate and French château-inspired setting beautifully. There’s an inherent timelessness to film that allowed the images to feel less like modern engagement photos and more like photographs that could have existed for decades—romantic, refined, and a little imperfect in all the right ways.
